The Best Way to Add Listings to Amazon Handmade | Etsy Shop Tips

In an attempt to connect more with the handmade community (and likely to compete with my fav marketplace, Etsy) Amazon launched their entirely handmade platform, Amazon Handmade, back in 2015. A piece of humble pie for you all – I applied with AllyBeth Design Co back in 2016 but was denied almost immediately. I was crushed! Over the next few years, this little biz grew in leaps and bounds and I was thrilled when we were accepted when I applied again in 2017.
We currently sell on Amazon Canada and Amazon US, although we don’t commonly link to these shops on our social platforms. Why? Because like Etsy, we don’t own these platforms and cannot guarantee they will be there, or if they will work for us forever. But – just like Etsy – Amazon Handmade comes with built in traffic which increases our exposure 100x over. Woohoo!
However, that excitement quickly died when I realized how labour intensive it is to upload individual handmade items to the Amazon platform. As you can imagine, Amazon was originally built to buy and sell popular items. Particularly items that already have universal barcodes. Since the majority of handmade items do not, this process becomes significantly slower.
I have over 100 listings on Etsy you guys, and there is no bulk upload. It took me literally days to add all of our products to Amazon Canada. After a few months of growing our presence and getting the hang of processing sales, I decided to expand to Amazon US. I thought I could easily duplicate my Canadian listings to my US shop.
I thought wrong.
By this time, I’d gotten too busy to spend another week loading all of our listings into the platform, and I began researching other options. Honestly, I was frustrated with the lack of options when it came to bulk uploading (I guess I’ve been spoiled with other platforms) – and knew there had to be a better way.
So what was my breakthrough solution that I literally tell someone about at least once a week?
I hired someone on fiverr to do it for me.
I had heard of places like Upwork and Fiverr before, but always thought of them as places people went for cheap (and poorly written) articles for their blog. I was amazed and thrilled to discover the type of data entry work that these types of freelancers could help me with – and how quickly it got done.
Here’s how it works:
- Choose one of these fine freelancers to complete the work. They will have pre-made listings that you can purchase directly for 50, 100, 300 products or you can message them for a personalized quote
- Freelancer #1 – 80 to 100 Product Listings (this is who I used)
- Freelancer #2 – Add up to 300 Product Listings in 7 Days
- Freelancer #3 – Add up to 100 Product Listings in 10 Days (and includes a 30 minute live consultation so you can discuss the job if you’d like)
- You will have to give them your sign-in information to your Amazon account, however I created a new Amazon Handmade account that was separate from my shopping account, so I didn’t mind this.
- I provided the freelancer with a link to my Etsy shop – no log-in necessary! They duplicated the listings (including pictures, descriptions and prices) in just under 4 days.
